My grandmother was a florist and entrepreneur. I grew up working in her flower and gift shop during my summers. I absolutely loved the smell and the colors of all the fresh flowers in her icebox. She would chill Coke bottles for me in the flower box, and I would sit on her workshop table tops and talk for hours with her about how to cut and arrange flowers, tie ribbons and running the store. Lately, I have been thinking quite a bit about the impact my Granny Fraser had on me as a designer. She was a force.
Secretly, there are days I wish I could start a whole new career as a floral designer which is exactly what Marisa Competello did. Assisting stylists in New York, she realized styling clothes was not her passion, and she started arranging flowers instead. She began arranging flowers for Dimes in NYC, and her career as a florist took off. Her design business Meta Flora is now working with some pretty amazing clients in the fashion and design realm including Rachel Comey, Kelly Wearstler, Apparatus, and Glossier. Her work is dramatic, editorial, and contemporary.
Swooning over her Instagram feed especially her arrangements with several stunning Georg Jensen silver pieces.
